Time & Location
20 Jun 2023, 18:00 – 19:00
The Small City Bookshop, 201 Church Rd, Redfield, Bristol BS5 9HL, UK
About the event
Join the editor of Scratch Books, Tom Conaghan, as he talks us through the methods and processes of the most brilliant short story writers.
We will learn from the ideas of the Reverse Engineering series and conversations with Sarah Hall, Tessa Hadley, George Saunders, Yiyun Li, Jon McGregor and many others, exploring how different writers follow their inspiration to inform their writing. We will then look into the different methods writers use to shape the raw material of a first draft, to hone the work to form the best version of itself, so that it "responds acutely to itself".
The session will lead new and emerging writers through some useful craft ideas for great short stories – giving you new ways to think about your writing as well as a few things to avoid!
Please bring something to write with.
